Make shortfalls produce themselves
When you confirm a sales order and the finished goods are not on the shelf, someone has to start production. You can write that decision into the product once, so the routine runs create themselves and only the exceptions reach a person.
Set the policy on the bill of materials
Section titled “Set the policy on the bill of materials”- Open the product’s bill of materials in Production → Bill of Materials.
- On the Specification tab, find Automatic production.
- Under When stock runs short, choose:
- Do nothing: nothing is created. The order raises one action for somebody to pick up.
- Create the job and wait for a person: a production order is created and left planned. A person starts and closes it.
- Produce automatically: a production order is created and completed in the same step. Materials come off stock and the finished goods are booked.
- Under How much to produce, choose Exactly what is short (however small) or Whole batches (the shortfall is rounded up to whole batches, using the batch size from the specification’s batch ranges for that quantity).
Under “create the job and wait”, you can also set On an order confirm, move the new order to a status. A production order created for a shortfall is moved to it. Materials reserved really reserves the materials. If stock is short it stays Planned and says so on the order: “There was not enough free stock to reserve every material”. The same applies if the order has no production location.
Only someone who can edit production can change this. Sales can see it as a label on the product.
What you see on an order
Section titled “What you see on an order”Every sales order line says whether it is in stock, can be made or is short, and names the material that limits it. What you cannot ship goes to production in one move, in the status you choose, and an order can be accepted straight into a status of your own.
Two ways the same idea shows up
Section titled “Two ways the same idea shows up”- In Simple assembly mode (Settings → General → Advanced production), a product is made of materials and works, one level, and a shortfall on a confirmed order is assembled by itself.
