Import products from a spreadsheet
Bring in your catalog from a spreadsheet, or export what you have, change it in bulk and import it back. Rows are matched by SKU: an existing SKU is updated, a new one is created.
Export, edit, import
Section titled “Export, edit, import”- Open Catalog → Products and use the filters to choose which products you want.
- Open the More actions menu and click Export XLSX. The file holds the products you filtered.
- Edit the file. Keep the header row.
- In More actions, click Import XLSX and choose the file. A CSV works too.
- Read the preview: To create, To update and Errors. Rows with errors are listed with the reason and are skipped.
- Click Apply.
The result shows Created, Updated and Failed. If your Google Drive is connected, Export to Google Sheets and a Google Sheet link field also appear.
The columns
Section titled “The columns”Only sku is required. The rest are optional:
name, brand, category: brand and category match by name. A name that matches nothing is an error for that row.status:draft,configured,liveorarchived.product_type:sellable,service,posm,testerormerchandise.base_unit: required on rows that create a product. It must be a unit from your unit list. On an update row you can leave it blank, and the unit is left alone.priceandcurrencyare in the export for reference. Import does not read them; set prices with price lists.
A blank cell on an existing product leaves the value as it is.
Attribute values
Section titled “Attribute values”Add one column per attribute named attr: and the attribute’s code, for example attr:burn_time. For one language of a localizable attribute, add @ and the language: attr:care@uk.
- A blank cell leaves the value alone.
- A cell with
—or--clears the value. - A choice must match one of the attribute’s values. Several choices are separated by
|. - Yes or no values accept
true,false,yes,no,1and0. Dates areYYYY-MM-DD. Colors are HEX. - A measured number may carry its unit, such as
250 g.
The export adds an attr: column for each attribute that has a value in the exported set, and the template lists every live attribute.
Templates stay templates
Section titled “Templates stay templates”If a name or description is written with tokens, a normal export keeps the tokens, and import puts them back unchanged. To get the resolved text for proofing or for someone outside, use Export as buyers see it (XLSX). That file cannot be imported back, because it would overwrite your templates with plain text. If a file would replace a stored template with plain text, the row is refused unless you tick Replace templates.
Large files and partial runs
Section titled “Large files and partial runs”A large file is applied in batches. If it stops partway, you see how many rows were applied and a Continue import button that picks up from where it stopped. Nothing is lost.
Import / Export center
Section titled “Import / Export center”An administrator can open Import / Export in the sidebar to start exports of products, materials, customers, specifications, orders, purchase orders, categories, material categories and attributes in XLSX, CSV, PDF or Google Sheets, and to Download template for any entity you can import. Every run is listed under Recent jobs with its status, so you can download the file later. Imports start from each entity’s own list. Categories and attributes also import from their own screens in Settings, matched on the code column.
