Ask Skipper a question in the app

Skipper is the assistant inside Keelvy. It reads your workspace as you, so it sees only what your role lets you see, and every change it wants to make waits for your yes.

From any screen, click Ask Skipper… at the bottom of the page, or the round Skipper button in the corner, or press Ctrl+J (Cmd+J on a Mac). A small chat window opens over the page, and the page behind it stays usable. Press Esc or click Close to put it away. The window stays open while you move between screens.

For the full page, open Overview → Skipper, or choose Open full screen in the window’s More menu. If you don’t see Skipper, your plan or your role doesn’t include it. Settings → Plan and usage shows what your plan includes; an administrator can change your role.

  1. Type in the box and press Enter. Shift+Enter starts a new line.
  2. While Skipper works, the window shows Skipper is working… and a count of seconds. Details lists the steps it takes. Then its answer appears, with a line under it saying what it looked at. Copy the answer copies it.

Ask in the language you write in; Skipper answers in it. Good first questions:

  • Which products are missing a description?
  • Which materials are running low?
  • Where does the Lumen & Fern order 1042 stand?

Questions that only read data answer straight away. A question such as “which products have no barcode, translation, weight or channel listing” is answered with the total and the first rows in one go. A request to change something produces a proposal instead. See Approve or reject Skipper’s changes.

Click Attach files in the box to add a spreadsheet, a PDF, a photo or a document. In the small window, Attach files is in the More menu. Attached files also land in the Inbox under the chat, so you can file them later. See File documents from the Inbox. Skipper treats what a file says as information, never as an instruction.

When Skipper wants to change something, a chip in the small window reads “1 proposal — review”. Click it to see the proposal, with Back to the conversation to return. On the full page, proposals sit beside the conversation, or under Proposals on a narrow screen.

In the small window, More → New conversation starts a fresh one. On the full page, open Chats to start a New chat, rename a chat, or archive it. Archived chats brings back the ones you archived, and Restore reopens one. A chat is kept for 30 days after its last message, then removed. Choosing a different mode (for example setting up production) starts a new chat.

The More menu also moves the Ask Skipper bar to the corner or back to the center, and shows what is left of your AI credits.

  • No AI credits left. Sending pauses until your monthly allowance renews or you buy more. See Check your credit balance and buy more.
  • A very long conversation. Start a new chat; nothing was sent.
  • A step limit. If a question needs too many steps, Skipper pauses and shows what it had so far. Click Continue to let it carry on, or ask a narrower question.
