Set overtime rules

An overtime profile says how many hours are normal and what hours beyond them are worth. The profile marked as the workspace default is the one payroll uses. Open it in Settings → Overtime profiles.

  1. Open Settings → Overtime profiles and click Add profile.
  2. Enter a Name, for example “Standard” or “No overtime”.
  3. Set the Daily norm (h) and the Weekly norm (h). Hours above the daily norm on a day are overtime. Hours above the weekly norm in a week are overtime too. An hour is never counted twice.
  4. Set Overtime ×, the multiplier for those hours. 1.0 means no premium: over-norm hours are paid at the plain rate and still counted and shown separately.
  5. Choose Week starts on. The working week is a fixed seven-day period, and the day it starts on decides which hours fall into which week.
  6. Click Save, then Set as default to make it the workspace’s profile.

The overtime coefficient means one of two things, because two very different arrangements use the same number:

  • The full rate for those hours: over-norm hours are paid the coefficient times the rate, in total. Use ×2 where the rule is double pay, or ×1.5 for the usual US hourly rule.
  • An extra on top of what was already paid: the coefficient is a supplement, because the wage or the piece earnings already covered every hour worked. Here a coefficient below 1 is correct. Use ×0.5 for half-time on top.

Required by law (extra) is optional and changes nothing about what is paid. It only lets a payslip separate the part the law required from the part you agreed on top. Where the platform publishes the legal premium for a country, you can choose Statutory premium from that country and the coefficient can then be higher than the law, never lower. If the platform has no published premium for today, saving is refused until it is added.

  • It values timesheet hours. A salaried person on a zero hourly rate is unaffected by overtime entirely.
  • Only the overtime coefficient affects payroll today. Regular ×, Night × and Holiday × are stored but not applied to pay yet. Leave them at 1.
  • A person’s own hour norm for a derived hourly rate comes from this profile.
