Withhold payroll taxes
You do not have to set any of this up. With no tax profile, a payout is gross: net equals gross. If you employ nobody formally, or the people who help you invoice you, leave tax profiles alone. Pay models, balances and product costing all work without them.
When you employ someone formally and want Keelvy to work out what is withheld, give them a profile.
Build a profile
Section titled “Build a profile”- Open Settings → Tax profiles (under Operations) and click Add profile.
- Enter a Name, choose who it Applies to (Worker, Contractor or Freelancer) and add it.
- In the profile, click Add component for each line. Give it a Code and a Kind (Withholding or Employer charge).
- Choose the Base: Gross, Capped (with a Min base and a Max base) or Fixed.
- Set the Rate %. Choose a statutory rate published by the platform from the list, or Own rate (typed here) and type it.
- Set Effective from and, for a temporary levy, Effective to, then save the component.
Then assign the profile to the person under Tax and settlement on their card.
Each component is one of two things: Withholding comes out of the person’s pay, so they receive less. Employer charge sits on top of gross: it costs you more and does not reduce their pay.
A profile is a set of dated components. A rate can be the statutory one, read from the platform with a link to its source and followed when the law changes, or your own typed rate, which you answer for. A rate change is a new dated row. If the platform has no published value for part of the year, the person’s card says so and settling on those days is refused until it is added.
Forgetting to assign a profile to someone who needs one is the common mistake: the settlement panel warns you before you settle that nothing will be withheld.
