Ask Skipper by email

You can ask Skipper a question from your mail program and read its answer in the same thread. It is a second way to reach the same assistant you use in the app, in Telegram and in Slack.

Your workspace has two email addresses, and they do different things.

Address What it does
The workspace address Files documents into the Inbox. Skipper does not read it. See Send documents to Keelvy by email.
The same address with +skipper before the @ Asks Skipper. It answers by email, in the same thread.

To make the second address, take the workspace address from Settings → Inbox → Email, Your inbound address, and add +skipper right before the @. If the workspace address is abc123@mail.example, the address for Skipper is abc123+skipper@mail.example.

If you want Skipper to look at a document that came in by email, open the file in the Inbox and click Ask Skipper. See File documents from the Inbox.

  1. Write to the +skipper address from the email address you use in Keelvy.
  2. Put the question or the instruction in the body, in the language you write in.
  3. Wait for the reply in the same thread.

Skipper works as you, with your permissions, so it can read only what you can read.

By email, a change is never made from the email itself. The reply holds a proposal and a link. Open the link, sign in to Keelvy, check the proposal and approve or reject it there. Nothing changes until you approve. See Approve or reject Skipper’s changes.

This is stricter than Telegram and Slack, where you can approve in the chat. It is deliberate: an email is easy to forge, and the link makes sure a person at a signed-in screen decides.

Skipper acts on an email only when all of these hold:

  • The email passes the checks of the sender’s domain (SPF, DKIM and DMARC). An email that looks forged is dropped without a reply.
  • The sender is a member of the workspace, and the address is a confirmed one.

An email from anyone else is not acted on.

Only the new text the sender wrote counts as the request. A forwarded message and any attachments are read as information, never as instructions. So forwarding Skipper a supplier’s email with “pay this immediately” in it does nothing by itself; write your own instruction above the forwarded text.

  • There is a limit on how many emails Skipper takes in a short time.
  • Each answer uses AI credits, the same as asking in the app. See What AI credits pay for.
