What happens to prices when an exchange rate moves

A fetched rate does not change a price on its own. Keelvy separates the newest rate it has seen from the rate prices are calculated at, so a bad quote cannot reprice your catalog overnight.

In Settings → Currency → Coverage, each pair shows two rates:

  • Fetched: the latest rate from your top active source. It moves on every refresh and changes no price.
  • Applied: the rate money is calculated at. It moves only when a recalculation is applied.

When they differ, the row says why: waiting for the next recalculation, inside the dead zone, or held for approval.

Open Exchange policy → Advanced. Both bands are measured against the last applied rate.

  • Dead zone: a change this small is noise and no recalculation runs.
  • Change gate: a change this large is not applied unseen. Choose what happens: Ignore, Hold (keep the previous rate and skip the update), Apply to limit (apply the change capped at the gate) or Require approval.

Choose Percent or Absolute for each band. Preview band draws both for a pair so you can see where today’s rate sits.

With a gate of 0, every change that clears the dead zone counts as a breach.

With Require approval, a rate beyond the gate waits on the pair’s row with Apply now and Reject. Prices keep the applied rate until someone decides. Confirming needs an administrator or approver.

People with access to currency settings are notified: Rate change needs confirmation, Rate change held by the gate and Rate source unreachable are the notification kinds, and you can choose how you receive them in Settings → Notifications.

You can set a threshold for a sudden jump and a corridor with a lower and an upper bound for each pair, and be alerted when a rate breaks them. See Get alerted when a rate moves.

Applying a rate recalculates every derived price that depends on it. Pinned prices are skipped. Which prices are affected depends on the rule that covers each product: the general rate, or a rule for a brand, a category, a product group, a product or a channel. See Use a different exchange rate per brand or channel. While recalculation is queued, a banner reads Price recalculation queue and affected prices keep their previous amounts until the queue drains.

Open Audit log from the Currency screen. It lists changes to exchange policies, rates and sources, and each recalculation as Prices recalculated, with the pair and the number of items.
