Translate a product

Product copy has its own languages, separate from the language you use Keelvy in. A shop in Germany can read German product names while your team works in English.

  1. Open the product and go to Translations.
  2. Click + Add locale.
  3. Choose a Language from your workspace’s product languages.
  4. Type at least the product name, then click Add.

Each language gets its own column: Name, Short description, Description, Long description, Meta title and Meta description, plus the product’s localizable attributes. The primary language is marked Primary. A workspace with one product language sees a single set of fields instead.

Meta titles and descriptions show a character count, and warn when search results would cut them off.

To remove a language from a product, use Remove on its column. Adding it back later restores the copy it had.

On a language with no copy yet, click Generate with AI. On one a person wrote, click Translate with AI. On one AI wrote, click Regenerate. Translate everything with AI does the whole language from the primary one. Single fields have Translate, and in the primary language Write with AI drafts a description from the product’s own attributes. The name is never written from attributes.

Read the proposal and click Accept, or Discard. Nothing is saved until you accept, and AI actions use your AI credits.

AI copy is marked AI generated. When a person has checked it, click Mark as reviewed and it shows Human reviewed.

A name or description can pull in the product’s own attributes, so one line serves every variant and language.

  1. In a name or description field, type {{. A list of attributes opens.
  2. Choose one. It is inserted as {{attribute_code}}.
  3. Look at the preview under the field. It shows the text a reader of the selected variant gets, in this column’s language.

The preview also warns when some variants have no value for a token, and when a token names an attribute that no longer exists. The template is saved as you wrote it, and each reader gets it resolved.

To get a file of the resolved text for reading or proofing, use Export as buyers see it (XLSX) on the product list. See Import products from a spreadsheet.

Attributes with a list of choices keep one translation per value, shared by every product. Under Attribute values from a list, edit a translation once and every product that uses the value picks it up. Use Manage values and translations in attribute settings to go there.

On a family, the model owns the copy and variants inherit it. Choose a variant and type over a grayed field to give it its own words, or clear its name to hand the copy back to the model.
