Undo an edit and restore a version

Editing a photo never loses the original. A Studio save, an AI edit, a crop or a replacement becomes the newest version of the photo, and the older ones stay.

  1. Open the photo in Media.
  2. Open Version history. The newest version is the photo; each older one shows what changed: Saved from the Studio, Turned, mirrored or cropped, A new file put over it, Made by AI.
  3. Click Make current on the version you want.

Making an older version current is recorded as a new version, so nothing is lost either way. Delete this version removes one for good, and its file too unless another version uses it. The photo itself and its current version are not touched.

In the photo’s drawer, click Replace and choose As a new version of this photo or As a new file (this photo is archived). The first keeps the photo’s name, tags and every place it is used.

  1. Open Settings → Media presets.
  2. Under Versions kept per photo, choose a number, from 2 to 200.

Past this number, the oldest versions are removed when a new one is written. The version a photo is in now and its first version, the photo as it was before anything changed, are never removed this way. Lowering the number removes nothing at once. A photo is trimmed to it the next time it gets a version.
